This trophy was awarded during the first full year of operation of the San Francisco School of Fencing, later re-named the San Francisco Sports Academy. SFSF was founded by John McDougall in 1958 and lasted until 1962 . Besides John, other fencing teachers at this club included Charles Selberg, Jack Nottingham and Julius Palffy-Alpar.
