A pair of 1950 Pacific Coast Championship medals. These two first place medals were won by Francis “Fran” Carter, who competed for the Halberstadt School of Fencing. In 1950, Fran won first place in both the Junior Women’s Individual and Team Pacific Coast annual shindig. Fran’s teammates from Halberstadt were Gloria Isrin and Patricia Powers. At this time, “junior” was not a rating based on age, but experience. The following year of 1951, and likely based on this performance, Fran advanced to the “intermediate” events.
