1971 Western Intercollegiate Foil Trophy. From the Ferenc Marki collection, this trophy was won by the San Francisco State Men’s Foil team. No names on the trophy, unfortunately.

Doug, thank you for the spectacular job that you are doing to preserve the history of west coast fencing. If these important and wonderful memories, photos, characters, and stories do not get recorded, they will vanish with the passing of each generation that experienced them.
Maestro Marki’s 1971 Western Intercollegiate Fencing Conference First Place Trophy for the Men’s Foil Team was won by myself, Carl Sundholm, David Bardoff, and Byron Streitz, who also won the WIFC Men’s Foil Team Trophies for 1972 (Second Place) and 1973 (First Place). David Bardoff won WIFC First Place Individual Foil in 1973 and I took Second Place.
None of this would have happened if not for Maestro Ferenc Marki’s extraordinary expertise, skill, and insistence on excellence from his fencers. I wrote the Wikipedia article on his contributions. He deserves to be in the fencing hall of fame.
