Another gold medal from the collection of Fran Carter. This medal is from the Southern California division for a Women’s Junior Team Foil competition held in 1948. Fran was representing the Halberstadt School of Fencing. At this time, “Junior” was not a reference to age, but fencing experience. Junior fencers were allowed to compete in Intermediate or Open competitions in addition to Junior tournaments. How you progressed from one rank to the next isn’t clear. At least, not to me.
