Believed to be a Participant’s Medal from the 1929 European Military Championships, held in Budapest, Hungary. The sabre event was won by Hungarian Jekelfalussy Piller György and was the beginning of his four-year domination of sabre. He won the 1930 and 1931 World Championships, Individual and Team, and the 1932 Olympic Gold, Individual and Team. Retired from competition in 1933, he was unexpectedly called upon to fence in one last match at the Team Sabre competition at the World Championships against the Italians for the Gold Medal. He won all his bouts.
